obrigado para a música

listen while you read
Gregzinho - Seleção do Gringo

Came across a few articles and videos about this partially new (to us Westerners) genre of music entitled Baile (Bai-lee) Funk - the born relative to Funk Carioca with relations to Kuduro. One thing that boggles my mind is how avid music lovers, that including myself, continue to get down with lyrics they cannot understand (think Yelle or even Elephant Man for that matter).

Since I first heard of the aforementioned styles, there was something that [insanely] intrigued me. Samples from tunes that were made before I was born and lyrics that meant nothing but to basically loose your shit on the dance floor. This genre continues to re-sample all the same beats, but almost every time a new track comes out, the listeners jump on it like North Americans jump on Kanye's dick for another hit. Fortunately, their non evolving scene still consists of producers and lyricists that maintain the same thought and fondness for Baile.

Everything has become a melange - language and style-wise. Think Baile funk / Baltimore / Kuduro / Electrorave / Nu Rave / Ghetto tech / Booty Bass / Dubstep / Grime / Miami Bass / Dancehall / Crunk / Hyphy / Mash-up / WHATEVERTHEFUCKYOUWANACALLIT for a wider perspective on what I'm trying to get at.

Linguistics is an interest of mine and shit like Baile is what keeps me interested in music. Without the exposure to it at these so-called "hipster" parties I would've known jack about it, and if there is a high energy danceparty at night, you know I'm always down. The language barrier between cultures seems now to be non-existent. Since Baile has come about, a new hype for speaking Brazilian has come along too.. . check out the article here. Maybe Soulja Boy will learn Portuguese and "Superman" can be renamed "homem formidável" for the sake of our children.

After blogging about a style of music that's all about 'party and bullshit', I think I've spoken way too much shit at this point... but whatever! HOPE YOU'RE ENJOYING THE MIX
